when a programming language changes the older, incompatible pieces of code written in that language will no longer work. if your site contains such code it will break down. all those pieces of code will then have to be found and replaced - a time consuming and possibly expensive process. it is, of course, necessary and inevitable to update. but such a decision is not to be taken lightly. Netcells updates its PHP installation about once a year, this is probably more often than most, we do it around Christmas time, to allow time to deal with all the ensuing problems. all Users have to be given an advance warning about their sites possibly once the upgrade is implemented - then it is up to them to deal with the consequences! |
