Frequently Asked Questions

UK names are:
-- co.uk for commercial enterprises
-- me.uk for personal domains
-- org.uk for non-commercial organisations
-- ltd.uk and plc.uk for registered company names only
-- net.uk for Internet Service Providers
-- sch.uk for schools
Netcells can register and manage all of those names, except the last one.

Whoever you bought your .UK name from the Name's public records are kept and updated by the UK organization called Nominet. You can check the records of any .UK name via Nominet's WhoIs service on ›their site (type your domain name in the box).

Now that you know the basics, the first step in transfering the name is to give us the relevant name owner data - you do that in your User Zone > Account > Domains -> click +1 to open the new name form.

The second step in transfering a .UK name to Netcells ( assuming you are the registered Owner of the name ) is to change the NAME TAG with your current registrar to: JOKER (this is one of the name wholesellers we use) or perhaps you can change the Tag yourself by logging to the registrar's name management interface.
Once the Tag has been changed we can handle the rest of the transfer process.
If your current registrar is uncooperative or gone out of business you can address yourself directly to Nominet and ask for the same thing ( ie. change the name Tag to JOKER) - there will be a fee.

Bear in mind that transferring your name might take a week or more, do not leave it till the last minute as this could cause problems and further delays.
When a .UK Name expires you do not lose it straight away, Nominet will send you a letter offering to renew it at a very steep price - in this case, if you wish to keep the name, you better renew it with your current registrar as it will be much cheaper.

Nominet send letters to registered Owners of .UK names asking them to confirm the Name's details by logging to the Nominet interface - you should do that.
Beware of any other letters asking for renewal fees, search engine submission etc, those are common Internet frauds.
