first of all -- what is a password?
Xclose
it is a sequence of characters known only to yourself or to a selected and closed group of authorised and trustworthy persons. never forget this definition and you will understand that a password can never be sent by email or any other plain text channel. it can only be given or set via a form on a secure encrypted connection. we run a secure server - it is in your own interest to use secure passwords for your site / cPanel login and all your email accounts - please take this very seriously, and in case you don't, our server is set to automatically reject all passwords which do not meet our security standard. it is quite easy to generate reasonably secure passwords - do NOT use the same password for various logins - just give yourself a set of simple rules you can remember, use 2 or 3 words combined, but perhaps use just the first 5 letters of those words, or change the second letter of words into a capital or a digit, or replace certain letters with a digit, or transpose some letters etc here are more tips: # make password 12 characters or more # do NOT use your name or your site's name in the password # NEVER use "password", "1234" or something equally silly # use letters and numbers (NOT your date of birth) # use upper and lower case once your password has been set write it down on page 48 of your favourite book (this is only an example, you can use a different page number). never write together your password, username and the web address. |
