web designers often ask their clients to move their Domain Name to them.

before you take that fateful step you would be wise to read carefully the information below. never forget that whoever controls your Domain Name also controls your site and attached services (such as email). this is useful to that person (your designer?) but probably not in your best interest. whatever your designer's intentions you should be sure you will have full access to the Name, now and in 3 or 5 years. web designers do not manage Names directly, what we are really talking about here is transferring your Name to a third party company, a Domain Name Reseller. at the very least you should know who that company is, what they charge, how easy are they to communicate with and how easy it is to make changes to your Domain Name. moving Domain Names can prove time consuming, you don't want to do it often. many, if not most, domain name registering companies have automated systems made deliberately hard to use, in order to discourage moving the Names away from them. furthermore, please note that you have absolutely nothing to gain from transferring your Name. transferring a Name does not result in any changes to the services attached to the Name, such as email or web hosting, it is the changing of nameservers that causes that. transferring a Name simply changes the company you pay for the renewal and stores the public records. in any event, when moving site, it is wise to wait several months before transferring the Name until you are happy with the new set up - if you are not, we simply change the nameservers again. Netcells is a Reseller of Domain Names since 2003. we register and manage Names under wholesale agreement with Joker in Switzerland. you have full control over your name - manage it yourself or we can do it for you. our renewal costs are about the same as any other reseller. when you transfer your domain elsewhere you are cutting all ties with Netcells. make sure you are fully aware of all implications before transferring away your name! |
