All things considered, keeping and dealing with your mail on the server is the most secure and practical way of using email. You are likely to sooner or later lose the email downloaded to your computer, laptop or mobile phone, as those devices break or become obsolete and are subject to various hazards. In contrast - no mail was ever lost on our server and it is of obvious advantage to access your mail from 5 years back, as many of our clients do. Plus, of course, you can access your email from anywhere, on any computer or device - just remember to log out and why not use a secure connection (›FAQ256) to avoid being hacked. In any case, however you use email, you should know how to access your mail server, as your local device or email program might well let you down in a most inopportune moment. To deal with email on your server you simply log in to your cPanel (›FAQ9) and go to Mail or connect directly to your Webmail, as described in ›FAQ256. One good solution is to set your mobile phone to pick up mail from the server, so that you can deal with urgent posts, then use your Webmail to deal with your email at length. When you set your local device (computer, mobile phone, tablet etc) to pick up email it is important to understand the options the local mail program gives you - typically you can leave a copy of the email message on the server or delete it - immediately or after some time. When you download email to your local device while not deleting it, you must attend to your mail server from time to time to deal with your posts - failing to do so will lead to accumulation of mail until your disk space runs out - local computers create mail boxes on the server that take space - see ›FAQ180 Read practical tips for dealing with your Webmail in ›FAQ32 |
