Web Designer is a person who promises to unlock the possibilities of the Internet for you, but in reality, often the reverse happens.

Whoever this person is for you, never forget that today's Internet is a maze of technologies, often conflicting and short-lived. Not one designer can claim to know them all - a designer's opinion is never impartial - for commercial and practical reasons designer will always be pushing solutions they are familiar with - those solutions are not very likely to be best suited to your particular needs. It is an unfortunate fact that at the current stage of the Internet's (d)evolution a great part, possibly most "designers" just scavenge the web for templates, free widgets and pieces of code they do not really understand. They put all that mess on the cheapest server they can find, hoping to gain from the client's savings. Also note: All sites need updating - if your designer is not there in a year or two to deal with updates you risk having to start everything from scratch. If your site gets hacked we will suspend it and - if you are not able to deal with the situation - we will delete it from the server without refund. When your designer proposes a content management (CMS) system or framework you should be certain he is willing and able to provide on-going maintenance and security of that system (ie. upgrades). Building your own custom CMS is not a serious proposal - there is a huge amount of work involved in making, troubleshooting and maintaining such a system over time (we know - we have built one - the Netcells User Zone). The use of programming frameworks is explained in ›FAQ112 We run our own secure dedicated server and work with a number of trusted and tested designers who, together, know quite a lot. Work with one of those designers and you will get a higher quality product plus a comprehensive support for all your site issues - now and in the future. If you use or know a good designer tell him/her to get in touch with Netcells - this could be of great benefit to the designer as well as other Users. |
