Spam (unsolicited email) is a very big, and growing, problem on the Internet.

Companies and organisations combat spam by compiling blacklists of IPs (Internet addresses) sending spam, and subsequently blocking those sending IPs. some of those lists are public - they can be checked on various sites, others are small or private (any organisation can have its own blacklist). if your IP gets blacklisted your mail will be blocked the list owner, even there might not be a good reason for it! and why would my IP be blacklisted? - you may ask... well, IPs are in short supply, your mail is most likely sent from a shared IP, with other Users mail. suppose one of those Users accounts gets hacked and used for spamming, then you are automatically in trouble! if that happens we can: - give you another IP address - although that might be also blacklisted by that or some other recipient - contact the recipient and ask them to remove your IP from the list - that might take some time - we can give you your own dedicated IP address, then you are the only one responsible for its use note that the legitimately used IPs do not get blacklisted for ever, lists are updated and in time IPs build a reputation, which is monitored on various public sites. |
