Spam is a major and growing problem (currently, over 70% of all email traffic) and there is no simple method of eliminating it - because there is no universally applicable definition of spam but also because the spammers are becoming more and more powerful.

remember, spam is dangerous - never open any attachment you are not unsure about. do not click "display images" option - that lets spammer know you have opened mail. never respond to spam, do not "unsubscribe" unless you are sure the message is from a legitimate source - spam usually comes from a sender different to the one shown ›FAQ22 spam, of course, does not come from our server, it comes from people who got hold of your email address. in other words it is your spam - wherever you move your email or web address your spam will follow you! if you are drowning in spam you can either: 1 deal with your spam - ie. use a program that will automatically filter all email and block what it defines as "spam". unfortunately, that can not be 100% accurate - some of my spam might be of interest to you and vice versa (indeed, that is the reason spam works for the spammers) - all of the anti-spam programs will identify some of the incoming email as spam, how many will depend on their settings - essentially, your choice is between getting more spam or more "false positives". ie. the legitimate email marked as spam. the mail identified as spam will be put in a folder called Junk or Spam - you will need to occasionally check the Junk folder for legitimate messages - then add those to your Whitelist so that they don't get blocked again. 1.1 we include one such anti-spam program, called Spam Assassin, it can "learn" how to filter your spam, activate it in your cPanel > Spam Assassin. 1.2 be sure that you have the Email Authentication (both DKIM and SPF) switched on in your cPanel > Email Authentication. 1.3 other anti-spam tools in your cPanel are Greylisting and BoxTrapper. 1.4 whatever you do, make sure your email account password is secure - if spammers get into your account you will be in a big trouble! see ›FAQ179. do not set up test@ account with silly passwords - that is easily exploited by hackers. if everything else fails you can: 2 abandon your email address, perhaps set up an new one in your cPanel and not give it to anyone except trusted contacts - that might work for a while, if you are finding that your emails to an address are being blocked, you need to contact the owner of that address to find the reason. when a server blocks your emails, emails sent to you from that server will not be delivered - because our server's spam defenses can't verify sender and therefore will reject the coming mail as spam. finally, 3 let us remind you that Netcells User Zone (NUZ) has a completely spam-proof messaging system - ›Secure Messages - any User can receive and reply to messages, keeping your address hidden - this facility can be added to any site hosted on our servers. NUZ (Netcells User Zone) is on: ›netcells.net/nuz/ Accessing your cPanel is explained in ›FAQ9 |
