You should never regard ordinary email as secure. Emails occasionally go astray, they can be intercepted while in transit, stay on the server for a specified number of days and can be copied while there if your site's security is breached. Registering a domain name or hosting a site with Netcells gives you your own mail server - this will generally perform better than large email hubs that handle millions of emails each day, such as the one provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP). Each email account you set up is protected by its own password (make passwords secure, see below). If you set up a forwarder, its reliability will depend on the server where emails are sent to. Bear in mind that in many jurisdictions you are legally responsible for what you say in your email. Netcells User Zone (NUZ) gives you the means to receive SecureMessages - those are entered into a database via encrypted transmission and do not travel by email. The messages can be read in your Netcells User Zone (NUZ) - COMMS>SecureMessages. C-Users have this facility built into their Cell but it can be added to any site hosted on our servers. Keep your password safe, disguise it if written down. Do not use silly passwords (example: if you are Jane Brown, do not make your password 'Jane' or 'Jane1', date of birth, name of your child or a pet is another bad idea), use a combination of letters and numbers - in the above example J4n3 would be a better choice (that's the name Jane spelled with numbers). Do not use dictionary words a passwords as those can be easily cracked. Remember that unscrupulous individuals are waiting to break into your account to send their spam email, if not for other reasons. Please take the security of your site seriously, failure to do so may lead to account suspension and many other problems. |
