Updating web sites through FTP or a web design program is free but requires knowledge of fast changing web technologies - and you need to learn the program you are using. The current standard for designing web sites is CSS - a big headache, due to countless differences and incompatibilies between browsers. Check our ›IT Links for free downloads and more info on more info. Another way of updating your site is through a Content Management System, or CMS for short. Or your designer might want to use a development ›framework. There are many such systems available - the decision of which to choose is not to be taken lightly - see ›FAQs. In the long run, the only efficient way of managing your site's content is through use of a ›database - that elimitates the practical limitations on how much data your site can handle and how you can use that data. Netcells has its own database-driven Content Management System, known as the Netcells User Zone (NUZ), now in version 4, included with our NCLive hosting and above - it allows you to run your site with no particular knowledge or additonal software, you do not even need to own a computer ! If you are featured on the Netcells network, you can selectively update both your site and your page on Netcells (Cell) - this saves time and greatly improves your web exposure. NUZ CMS is completely flexible, as, in addition to the existing functions, new ones can be written for your specific use. All your data is stored on our server, you can even take it all with you if you decide to leave. This facility is independent from the site's design - you can, in principle, have site built by yourself or a designer and make it updateable via NUZ. We assume you will use NUZ when hosting your site with Netcells. If you are an existing User and want to install a different CMS we will let you do it at your own risk - but - remember, you are responsible for updating your own CMS and keeping it secure (which is not a mean task) - we monitor all traffic to and from the server and will block your site if it gets hacked. The new NUZ (Netcells User Zone) is on: ›netcells.net/nuz. |
