Yes, this is a common problem and a big nuissance.

We owe it to the fact that IT companies are hell bent on preserving their own proprietary formats, geeks and designers are suporting this as it keeps them employed.... Try this (Windows): Save the original text in RTF format, then open it in WordPad and save it as Open Office XML format. The resulting file should show up on the Internet correctly. Other that that, the only sure way we know to fix those problems for good is to search and replace the offending characters with their html codes. Look for the html codes list in our IT Links, for example, thesauruslex.com, which has a full list of Latin and some non-Latin codes. |
