the Internet is a self-organizing system, ruled by ruthless natural selection. There is no instant or even quick way to build traffic to a new site, neither there is a way of keeping that traffic other than making your site truly interesting and relevant to any potential visitors. Furthermore, as an Internet user you should be glad that this is the case. Bearing that in mind, we list below some traffic-building methods at your disposal - they all work to some degree, over time: * first and foremost, have good, topical informative text on the front page of your site - the search engines (still) work by text * have interesting related links on your site, you can manage them from your User Zone (NUZ), get return links, whenever possible * update your site often - this is easy with Netcells Live hosting * have some interactivity on your site (comments, ratings, FAQ), this * have relevant meta-tags (keywords) embedded in your front page, you can edit those from NUZ, if your site is about Images, have the image tags embedded in each image page * set up a group or a page on one of the social networks, such as Facebook (note, this will not work well unless you have a reasonable number of Friends) * submit your site to the relevant on-line lists and directories * buy paid advertising on related specialised sites, webzines and networks * create a graphic ad and we can place it on various sites of the Netcells network * set up pay-per-click (PPC) advertising with Google AdWords, MicrosoftAdCenter or Yahoo! Search Marketing - you can carry out detailed campaigns there, with detailed statistics, although this is very tedious activity * be wary of automated mass search engines submitting software - that can flood you with spam, use a disposable email address (traffic@mysite.com or such) or, better still, submit manually, to selected relevant directories * you may consider adding a "ShareThis" or similar widget, although this will slow down the site it can give you useful links * get your site mentioned in the press, tv or other media * use business cards, flyers or stickers, spraying graffiti tags in public places must not be encouraged Whatever you do beware of individuals and companies offering permanent No.1 placing on the search engines - that could only be a con - you have been warned :-/ |
