besides, Internet technologies evolve, some parts or all of your site will break down sooner of later, depending on the elements used in its construction. update your site every year or two -- to avoid unpleasant surprised when you most need it!

the cost also depends on you, and the key, again, is Continuity - smaller but more frequent upgrades are better than a complete re-built that you will abandon for years. but it is not cost efficient to break it down too much - think of 50s and 100s of your local currency units (if they are GBP, EUR or USD).
