this page shows up-to-date technical and operational information concerning our servers - refer to it when having problems with your web site before contacting us via Help page.
note: all Internet servers fail from time to time. When a host company promises 99% connectivity, in real terms it means no more than 3 days 15 hours and 36 minutes of downtime during a year.
servers might need to be re-started for software updates, we normally do that on Saturday night (London time), but sometimes also on Sunday - that typically takes 5 minutes or less, those events are not mentioned in the log below.

Details of some of our other servers are only available directly to their Users.

NETCELLS 9 SERVER (NC9) - managed shared server running since August 2022, housed in Frankfurt, EU, with HostArmada, Linux/cPanel.

NETCELLS 7 SERVER (NC7) - dedicated server running since January 2015
Processor: Xeon E3-1240 (3.30GHz, 4 Cores, 8 Threads) Linux/cPanel/WHM
this is a managed server with good tech support housed in USA, with HFW.

2023-11-13 (monday) - server down for about 12 hours failing to reboot due to a disk error.
2023-05-20 (saturday) - server down for about 20 hours due to problem with a network switch in the data center.
2022-07-25 (monday) - disruption in connectivity and the DNS system caused malfunction throughout the day and a backlog of email.
2020-09-04 - emails sent to Hotmail and Outlook addresses were blocked. all our IP addresses have good reputation, none is on any blacklist. we have filed a delisting request SR1508131326 with Microsoft, however, they refused to unblock and refused to given the reason for either blocking or not unblocking.
2018-01 - HFW merged with another company, changing all IP addresses - resulting in days of chaos, sites not working, support lines jammed with calls.

NETCELLS 8 SERVER (NC8) - dedicated server running Jan 2018 to Aug 2019
SP-32 - Xeon E3-1270v6 Linux / cPanel/WHM
this was a "bare metal" server housed in London, UK, with a French company OVH, our support comes directly from the cPanel in Texas.

2019-08-21 - all data deleted, server closed.
2018-12-18 Tuesday - server did not recover from software update - down for about an hour from 01:22 London time. BIOS and IPMI/BMC updated to newest version.

NETCELLS 6 SERVER - dedicated server running Nov 2007 to Jan 2015

2015-08-07 Friday - server has crashed, data moved to a new server.
2015-06-24 Wednesday - server was unreachable for a short time due to a software update gone wrong.
2015-01-18 Sunday - our new server went online today it has more than twice the speed of the old one, greatly expanded disk space and many other improvements.
2014-11-25 Tuesday - the server has crashed this morning. It is a powerful machine but it is beginning to show its age, we are looking into replacing the server with the latest technology before the end of the year.
2014-11-09 Sunday - the server's MySQL data installation was updated to the latest version - problems on Users' sites were fixed by us free of charge, even on sites not maintained by Netcells.
2014-05-04 Sunday - the server's PHP installation was updated to the latest workable version - those updates are important and inevitable - minor incidents on Users' sites were fixed by us free of charge.
2014-04-29 Tuesday - notification sent to Users:
1. zip attachments - due to a sharp increase in malicious spam we have blocked all mail containing those attachments at the server level.
2. the Heartbleed bug - our server was never affected, as it uses OpenSSL 0.9.8 branch, which is NOT vulnerable.
2014-01-09 Wednesday - the server detected spam coming from one of the accounts (using Wordpress), which has been hacked, we have secured the account but not before its shared IP address has been blacklisted by Microsoft (Hotmail). Our request to delist our IP was not answered more than a week later. We have now resolved the problem by our own means.
This incident underlines the importance of secure passwords, accessing your email via secure SSL connection. Ask for a dedicated IP address to avoid such incidents altogether.
2014-01-02 Thursday - the server crashed and was down for 1h 10min. The cause of the crash was insufficient RAM. We have doubled the server RAM now - to 8GB.
2013-07-23 Tuesday - DDOS attack on one of the sites brought has put a great strain on the server. This situation took several days to resolve. We have isolated the site and subsequently removed it from the server - it was never seen since - effectively destroyed, contact us if you want to know more.
2012-02-12 Sunday - the server was down for 42 minutes due to maintenance work - this has to be done sometime, we will be doing a RAM upgrade next week
2012-01-28 Saturday - the server was down for 33 minutes due to the data center networking issues
2012-01-20 Friday - the server was down for 2 hours, 2 minutes due to a human error at the data centre - after discussing this issue we will get a 2GB free RAM upgrade to compensate for this.
2011-01-18 Tuesday - the server was relocated, as notified, to a brand new state-of-the-art data centre that provides space to some of the biggest companies in the world - Google, Microsoft, RackSpace - see the more detailed information above.
2010-08-01 Sunday - upstream network outage - server down time 1h 33min.
2008-04-26 Saturday - software update to php ver. 5.2.5 - disruption only lasted a few minutes, but check your php scripts are running ok.
2007-11-26 Monday - the new server went live.

NETCELLS 5 SERVER - running since January 2006 till November 2007
2007-07-07 Saturday - attack on the server's DNS service brought all services down for 6 hours 23 minutes. The server's DNS defences have been reinforced.
2007-06-26 Tuesday - the server was down for short period due to a RAM upgrade.
2007-01-23 Tuesday - the server was down for approx. 4 hours, due to the server network outage at the datacentre.
2006-11-29 Wednesday - the server was suspended due to the spam bouncing back to the server (the spam was not originating from the server). Outage lasted 3 hours 7 minutes.
2006-01-23 The main sites of the Netcells network have been moved to this new server, all the code has been upgraded and greatly improved in the process - this was a big job - we appologise if you have experienced problems during that time.

2006-08-17 Friday - server down for several hours due to a human error.
2006-08-04 Mail Server down for several hours
2006-02-09 Thursday 12:16 GMT (UTC) - Time on error: 2 hours 47 minutes 24 seconds
2005-12-15 Thursday - problems have been reported with SENDING email. This can be solved by enabling Server Authentification in your mail program (in Outlook go to Tools>Accounts>Properties>Servers>My Server Requires Authentification). Remember, you can always send mail from your cPanel, regardless of your local computer problems (see FAQs).
2005-11-25 Friday about 9:02 GMT (UTC) - master DNS servers rebooted. Time unreachable: 30 min.
2005-11-11 Friday Server recovery at 19:02 GMT (UTC). Time on error: 3 hours 30 seconds.
2005-09-19 Monday Server recovery at 14:40 GMT (UTC). Time on error: 17 minutes 28 seconds.
2005-08-29 Monday Server recovery at 4:30 GMT (UTC). Time on error: 1 day 6 hours 16 minutes 40 seconds.
2005-08-18 Thursday Server recovery at 19:19 GMT (UTC). Time on error: 2 hours 30 minutes 23 seconds.
2005-05-20 Friday Switch problem time on error: 1 hour
2005-04-27 Wednesday Server recovery at 6:19 GMT (UTC). Time on error: 2 hours 11 minutes 17 seconds.
2005-02-09 Wednesday Hacker attack - Server down for 11 hours - all software updated, security improved.
