Many small companies out there are set up simply to harvest data, to be then sold for big bucks to larger firms and corporations. If we wanted to do that we would be trying to sign up as many users as possible - clearly this never was and it never will be our policy. Note that the person who created Netcells in the first place is one of the prominent Users of the network himself - we are therefore all in the same boat. Large companies, 'social' networks etc make a living of selling your data for advertising and other purposes. If their product is free this is because you are the product. This is fine as long as you know and consider this exchange beneficial. Still, no matter how large your network is, it is not the Internet - the prime purpose of Netcells is to provide tools and services so that you can promote your site, your Internet identity to anyone interested. You can still use social networks but use your Netcells account to integrate your web presence and bring the traffic to yourself. If you do not see the difference between giving your data to a large corporation with millions of users or using a company with small user group with a common purpose, private secure server and the committment to empowering the User then there is nothing we can do about it, but thanks for stopping by, anyway. |
