With database you can handle any amount of data. It takes time to gather data - that's why you should start now (even before you launch your site), have a continous access and add data on regular basis. Your data are rapidly and selectively accessible - via Search, for example, or any other function you might add in the future.
A site without database is a waste of time - as you add data, sooner or later, you will find yourself in a time-consuming mess.

Some people (intuitively) understand this and will say - OK - but I can use this or that site that provides free database functionality - MyFace, BigPocket, StarLauncher, Flipper or similar.
To those people we say:

Putting your data into any database to which you do not have direct access is a waste of time - you are just building someone else's traffic, furthermore, there is a good chance you will lose that data and the time spent entering that data, your data-storing site might die, get sold, change out of recognition and, in any case, you can only use and access your data in the way they decide.
Those sites are free because they use and sell your data (anonymously or not). Conversely, Netcells is dedicated to developing our User site, your data is stored in universal format (SQL), you can take it and go and any time, now and in the future.

Some other people will say, sure, but I do run my web site off a database to which I direct access, I am using a free software, which I have installed, perhaps Skylark, NetBuddy or WorldPass.

Yet, some other people will say - Ah ! but I have a database included in my hosting, I will just go and do it all myself !

Programmers generally live on the planet Zork and, assuming you can even communicate with any of them, you also have to be sure this person will be willing to continue with your site in the future or that you can find someone compatible with the way things were done previously.
